What We Do
The Centre works in deprived and remote poor rural communities in Northern Ghana, within the three Northern Regions: the Northern Region (Capital: Tamale), the Upper East Region (Capital: Bolgatanga) and the Upper West Region (Capital: Wa). These three regions are the most deprived of the ten regions in Ghana suffering from the greatest levels of poverty (see National Development Planning Commission, 2005).
The Centre is striving to alleviate and reduce abject poverty and to support vulnerable children, women and people with disabilities. Furthermore, we are committed to the relief of disaster victims and refugees, helping them to overcome any suffering and difficulties.
Objectives:
- To promote community-centered action-based empirical research work and documentary services that contribute to the growth of knowledge, for sustainable development and the dissemination of research finding for public education and information.
- To develop programmes and projects for rural and community development through seminars, workshops, community durbar and fora
- To advocate for policies to in order to mitigate and eliminate poverty in rural poor communities.
- To advocate for the poor and vulnerable children, women and people with disabilities in society.
- To empower vulnerable women, children and rural poor communities through service delivery: infrastructural development, machines for income generating activity, advancing funds or micro-credit to poor women as well as providing vocational training for children.
- To educate vulnerable women, children and people with disabilities in rural poor communities on their rights for community-government engagement through a rights-based approach and people-centred advocacy driven initiatives.
- To build the capacity of other community based organisations and civil society organisations as well as individual interns/volunteers and community members.
- To solicit for funds for programmes and project implementation for rural development and equal and better standards of living.
